Hello, friend! It’s good to be back for another Monday Mayhem!
I hope you enjoyed our “names” series. I hope the series affirmed or reaffirmed your need for Jesus. I hope it ignited or re-ignited a longing to know Him better. I hope it illustrated, at least the tiniest bit, how powerful and wonderful He is. I hope it instilled, well, hope for you, friend: hope for healing, hope for recovery, hope for renewal, hope for peace, hope for an eternal future more magnificent than any earthly future….And I hope you’re excited to continue on with me, Jamie, Yvette, and Vanessa in our journey as we tackle (yes, there could be some necessary violence involved) the topic of WORTH.
Having been a participant for a while now in an intensive, ongoing recovery program (That’s Celebrate Recovery! Woot! Woot!) for a variety of struggles including worth, I know that worth is something many, many, many, most people struggle with.
What? You struggle with it, too? It’s ok, friend, because….
Can I tell you something? Or better yet, can my oldest son tell you something?
My 7 year old gave this note to me one evening when I picked him up from church. The steady jumping of an overexcited and overtired child and the somewhat frantic rush of an overly busy and over exhausted mom made it impossible to read at the time.
I carried the note out to the car and tucked it into my purse. Once we arrived home, our normal back-and-forth began.
“But I’m not tired,” he whined.
“But it’s time for bed,” I insisted.
The note remained in my purse for several days but eventually made its way onto the nightstand in my bedroom. From there, my son taped it (with masking tape, no doubt), right in the center of the oversized, antique-ish headboard in my bedroom. And that’s where it stayed, a constant remembrance, until I began to think about this Monday Mayhem post on worth.
Did you know that this note given to me by my child to remind me of my worth applies to you, too, friend?
Did you know that you, too, are worth even more than _____.
Go ahead. You fill in the blank: fame, diamonds, a doctorate degree, gold, power, all the money in the world, it doesn’t matter.
Did you know that it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, you’re still worth even more than _____?
Did you know that it doesn’t matter what has been done to you, you’re still worth even more than _____?
Did you know that it doesn’t matter how many people have called you names that make you feel worthless, you’re still worth even more than _____?
Do you know how I know this, friend?
Because “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, New International Version).
Did you know that God sent His only son down to our hellacious world and, although without sin, he was mocked, ridiculed, spat on, beaten, and finally nailed to a cross because YOU are worth even more than _____?
Did you know that even if you were the only person in the world, you would still be worth even more than _____ to the only One who actually gives you worth in the first place?
I hope that you’ll join me for Faith-Full Friday, friend, where I’ll be waging holy war on the lies our society tells us about our worth….
There just might be a little violence involved. Just sayin’….
