Hi. My name is Vanessa Lopez. This month you’ve met my friends Stephanie, Jamie, and Yvette. They’re a fabulous group of women to work with, and I am blessed to know each one of them. Today, I’d like to give you a peek into my life.
I’m a grateful believer in Jesus Christ, and I struggle with… EVERYTHING. No, seriously! Sometimes the speed at which marriage, parenting, ministry, homeschooling, and life in general whirls around me is, well, EXHAUSTING. Occasionally though, in the midst of the chaos, I find myself pondering who I am.
Which hat defines me most?
Surely, being a homeschool mom to 5 amazing children takes up the most amount of my time. There’s an endless stack of paperwork to be filed or graded, clothes to wash, and toys that need to find their proper home. There’s the constant reminders to put down the toilet seat (4 of the kids are boys), but this hat does not define me.
Between dirty diapers and graded papers, there’s the romance of ten years that has weathered multiple storms, including immigration challenges, being a step family, and caring for a child with cancer. This is my most tattered hat, but it does not define me.
Perhaps, my ministry, my friendships, my other family commitments could define who I am. Any of these things could define me, but they don’t.
I CHOOSE to be called a follower of Christ. I CHOOSE to be defined by the cross I bear rather than the many hats I wear. In Christ, I am an overcomer. I am passionate. I am hopeful. I am redeemed. I am loved. I am forgiven. I am free. I am whole. In Christ, I walk with confidence. In Christ, I rest with peace.
My hope for you, as you move through the pages of this blog, is that you’ll have an encounter with Jesus Christ. I hope you’ll find encouragement and rest in the midst of your busy chaotic world. I hope that I can share His peace with you.
“I have told you these things, so that in [Christ] you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! [He] has overcome the world!” -John 16:33
